The January MEPCIS Meeting was held at Penn Biomedical Support in Blandon, Pa. After feasting on barbequed pork, chicken and ribs along with many side dishes from Smokey Bones Bar & grill,   the 30 members present gathered for the annual election of officers.
 
Topping the MEPCIS business meeting was a spirited conversation and counting of ballots for election of officers of President and Secretary.
 
David Heckman was re-elected to office of President
Seth Lawall was re-elected to office of Secretary
Chip Yanusko accepted an offer to join the Program Committee.
 
In addition, Luis Terreforte from Lehigh Valley Health Network spoke about Operation Smile’s upcoming mission to Guwahati, India. A well staffed team of Biomeds support the surgical teams resulting in highly successful results for many children. For further details, go to www.operationsmile.org.
 
Lou Schnoder addressed the goals of  earthMed to improve medical care in developing countries through education, direct patient care and medical device donations.  The current mission is for a trip in 2010 to Juanjui, Peru.  A team of several doctors, nurses and a biomedical technician will hold clinics in the hospital and Juanjui community. The two MEPCIS members were applauded for their dedication in helping to bring  much needed medical care to other parts of the world that are less fortunate then us.
 
A presentation followed by Stuart Latimer from Trisonics on Diagnostic Ultrasound.
A variety of probes and techniques was reviewed along with troubleshooting some common problems with three machines. As a veteran Biomedical Engineer, Stuart was very knowledgeable in this field and was able to address the many questions on ultrasound technology.  For further information see www.trisonics.com
