MEPCIS PICNIC AND GOLF TOURNAMENT TEE OFF A SUCCESS
-
On Saturday, June 14, the annual Mepcis Picnic was held at
Furnace Dam Park in Emmaus, Pa. The event was combined as a support
gathering for the Golf Tournament on September 24, sponsored by Mepcis
and the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society. 50% of any
profit will be going to their general fund. Posters and flyers for golf
tournament players and sponsors were circulated along with literature
from the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
-
- Along with maintaining medical equipment and
life support for patients in medical facilities, Biomedical Engineering
Technicians and their families are also patients at times. A member of
Mepcis, Tom Keill from Lehigh Valley Hospital, has a sister Karen who is
afflicted with Multiple Sclerosis and is spearheading the fundraising
and awareness of MS for the local chapter.
-
- In attendance were Tom Keill, his wife
Jennifer and their two sons Tyler and Porter, Carl Gamler, Jennifer’s
Father, Karen Kinn, her husband Josh and their daughter Immagine
representing the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
- Penn Biomedical was represented by Seth Lawall and his wife
Michele.
- St Luke’s Hospital was attended by Joe Ostrowski.
- Lehigh Valley Hospital Mepcis members included Tom Fichter, Phil
Balliet, John Sokalsky and Dina, David Bowers, his wife Lori, their two
daughters Alisha and Tiffany and Moriah their friend, David Heckman, his
wife Gail, David’s son Eli and a friend Harold.
-
- An abundance of grilled foods, typical
picnic snacks and beverages were shared by all under a Pavilion next to
a stocked pond and small dam. Tiffany caught sunfish and trout with a
home made fishing pole and line made by Eli with the clang of horseshoes
striking pins in the background. The playground was visited by all the
children while the volleyball court was used by the teenagers. Door
prizes were awarded and many members were refreshed in the heat of the
day by the ongoing water balloon battles.
-
- Witnessing the event were 40 Canadian geese
of all ages, ducks, sunfish, trout, snapping turtles, a box turtle,
birds, a single deer watching from the brush and one park patrol agent.
Everyone enjoyed the warm summer day and is looking forward to a repeat
of this fun family picnic again next year.
